PRESIDENT DUTERTE APPROVES LAUNCH OF A NEW GOVERMENT SATELLITE NETWORK IN 2018

President Rodrigo Duterte approved the government satellite network (GSN) in 2018, according to Communications Secretary Martin Andanar on Tuesday.

"I am pleased to announce that during the 20th Cabinet meeting, the President gave the nod for PCOO's 'Government Satellite Network' (GSN) in 2018," Andanar said.

During the 20th Cabinet meeting, Andanar said that Duterte nodded for the GSN and it will be implemented by Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

Andanar said the GSN will transmit government-created content, such as video, photos, and audio.

"The GSN can transmit government video, image, audio and data content to the islands and hinterlands of the Philippines and the rest of world using advance satellite and IPTV technology," 

Andanar said. 

"It also provides two-way or multiple 4K tele-conference communication, Internet delivery capability and multiple TV channels," he added.

Also, he said once the processes are "ironed out", then the satellite can be rolled out to 42,000 barangay halls, PCOO attached agencies and offices nationwide in 6 months.
